The M16 with Vierlingsflak [4 x 12.7 mm] to the air defence is the US American half track-laying vehicle on the basis of the successful M3 of half chain team's transporter. In the years 1943-1944 2.877 M16 were produced. After 2. WK one prepared even bigger numbers of pieces M3 team's transporter on the M16 after standard. Together with the M15 they formed the air defence of the American infantry divisions and armoured divisions.

By the top speed of 70 km/h and the half chain drive the M16 half track-laying vehicles reached towards bicycle vehicles clearly better cross-country mobility. The high fire power of the 4x12,7 mm machine guns was very actual and, therefore, was used also often in the land fighting.
